The Sanctuary
Our unique 24-hour wall-less street resource center serves over 1,000 participants annually—primarily unhoused, older, and disabled individuals. Many of those individuals spend time in the Sanctuary nearly every day, creating an intimate community that is accustomed to welcoming newcomers along with us.
Comprising of sidewalk canopies, social areas featuring seating and tables, Blue Hollywood’s street sanctuary is a place of non-judgment; a refuge and safe space for all.
Our services include regular community events, wound care, on-demand spiritual counseling from founder Pastor Blue, casework services and around-the-clock distribution of harm-reduction supplies, water, daily vitamins, COVID-19 tests, condoms, and harm reduction education. Depending on availability, we also distribute socks, cold-weather items, blankets and hygiene items.
Our consistency in and fluidity with the community — where we know many individuals by name — has made us a trusted, accessible presence in the lives of our participants, who come to us not just for material resources but also conflict resolution, problem-solving and often just a listening ear.
The one-on-one support we provide addresses the emotional toll of compounded trauma and isolation, both of which are prominent in our community, and provides participants with a sense of connection and safety.
Perhaps most prominently, Blue Hollywood Street Sanctuary is a place of joy, where people can be seen playing Dominoes and cards, sharing food, reading or drawing with materials from our “tiny library” book cart, having deep discussions and dancing to music.
We invite you to come down and see us for yourselves!
