Harm reduction

As a harm reduction provider in Skid Row, Blue Hollywood is actively responding to the overdose crisis through urgent, life-saving interventions.

We provide harm-reduction supplies —such as syringes, naloxone, and safer smoking kits — and wound care around the clock at the Sanctuary, and do weekly outreach within the extended community.

Our efforts have contributed to over 100 documented overdose reversals in the past year, many of which were administered by BHSS staff and volunteers. This underscores the critical importance of accessible naloxone and other resources in a zip code where people are dying of overdose at 77 times the countywide rate.

We provide casework support and connections to essential services. While our casework is entirely volunteer-driven, our team regularly links participants to emergency and interim housing, medical and social services, and advocates on their behalf when necessary.

Additionally, BHSS acts as a community mediator, successfully intervening in over 30 disputes within the past year.
